Got one free morning in Cairo? Spend it here. You see the whole Giza plateau at a comfortable pace: the Great Pyramid of Khufu up close, Khafre's causeway, the desert lookout where the nine pyramids fall into a single row, then the enclosure of the Sphinx and the granite valley temple of Khafre.
As it is private, you choose when to go. Leave at 8am and you are on the plateau before the coaches; leave at 2pm for golden light on the stone and much less heat underfoot in summer.
