Hurghada grew from a fishing village into the most accessible resort city on Egypt's Red Sea. The classic day out is a boat to Giftun Island or Orange Bay, where the reefs are warm, shallow and easy for beginners all year. Behind the town, the Eastern Desert is made for quad bikes, buggies and Bedouin camps. It is also a practical start for a full day in Luxor — four hours each way in an air-conditioned car.
