Overview

Balloons take off from the west bank roughly forty minutes before sunrise, so you are collected at 4am and cross the river by motorboat in the dark. Nobody regrets it. You rise over fields of sugarcane and alfalfa, drift across the mortuary temples of Medinet Habu, the Ramesseum and Hatshepsut's terraces, and trace the ridge concealing the Valley of the Kings — the Nile going silver on one side and the Sahara stretching away on the other.

The flight lasts about 45 minutes, at heights of up to 500 metres. Baskets are divided into compartments and carry 16 to 24 passengers, or you can book a private basket for two to eight people. All the operators we work with are CAA-certified, and their pilots speak English.

    The chase vehicle collects you and you receive a flight certificate.

  • Wear comfortable closed shoes — most sites have uneven stone ground.
  • Bring a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen; shade is limited at open-air sites.
  • Modest dress is required for mosques and churches: shoulders and knees covered.
  • Photography is free at most sites; some tombs and museums charge a small camera fee.

Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Cancellations inside 24 hours are non-refundable, but we will always try to move your date instead.
