Overview

The Crystal is built for the view. Its dining room is glazed on three sides and the tables run along the glass rather than facing a stage, so the river is in front of you for the whole sailing rather than something you glimpse between courses.

Dinner is an open buffet with a long mezze table, grills carved to order and a dessert counter. The programme is the familiar one and none the worse for it: a band on oud and tabla, a belly-dance set, and a Tanoura turn to finish.

It sails from the Giza bank, which makes it the easy choice if you are staying near the pyramids rather than in town.
